This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Joan sing our national anthem. She’s sung it several times before Baltimore Orioles games (her favorite baseball team – see Joan’s interview with Billboard about the O’s back in April.) But the version she sang on September 5, 1995, in Oriole Park at Camden Yards, was special. The Orioles defeated the California Angels 8-0, and Oriole Cal Ripken tied Lou Gehrig’s record by playing in his 2,130th consecutive game. Many celebrities showered Ripken with gifts that night, including Joan, who was the first one out on the field to present him with one of her gold records. Blackheart released the song on the Unfinished Business CD in 2001.
