The Ponca City News, February 4, 2010. Preview/announcement for the show. This was a nice overview of who Joan is:
She is best known for her work with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts including their hit cover “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” which was No. 1 on the Billboard charts from March 20 to May 1, 1982, as well as for their other popular recordings including “Crimson and Clover,” “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” “Light of Day,” “Love Is All Around,” “Bad Reputation” and “Little Liar.”
Her musical and song-writing approach is heavily influenced by the hard-edged, hard beat-driven rhythms common to many rock bands of her native Philadelphia, often featuring lyrics surrounding themes of lost love, criticisms of insincerity, the struggles and resolution of the American working class, and the quest for authenticity.
In 2003, Jett was named in the Rolling Stone greatest 100 guitarists of all time at number 87. She was one of only two women in this list. The other was Joni Mitchell at number 72.
Pink at The Blonde Chaos Blog went to this show (pictures are above). She sent this from her phone that night. Check out her blog. There are some cool things over there:
Holy Sweet Christ-like zombie crackers! I just saw Joan Jett live in concert. Drove a few hours to get there in Newkirk, OK. I took a ton of videos and pictures and will post them soon, but this is an Iphone update. I’ll make this short.
1) Joan Jett is about 52. She looked 25. No joke. She also looked like she was having the time of her life.
2) The lesbians were coming out of the woodwork. Now, I don’t care. But I didn’t know this many existed in the OK, Kansas, Northern Texas, Arkansas area.
3) I got a guitar pick and drum stick
4) Joan Jett is the best performer I have ever seen.
5) She is tiny all the way around
6) She is fucking badass.
7) She looks at the crowd and her eyes are incredibly piercing. It is like she is looking directly at you. [NOTE: Jettheads call this the ‘Jett Eye Lock‘]
8 ) Holy Shit
Were you there?
