Joan Jett at “Sound City” premiere

Sound City

Last Thursday, January 31, Joan attended the premiere of Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary and walked the red carpet. She wore the same black leather jacket with the white lining that we saw her in at the Icons of Music II benefit in 2008 with Les Paul. I love that jacket! (Have you seen it anywhere else?)

Lots of other celebrities were there too, I guess. 🙂

Sound City is a documentary directed by Dave Grohl about the legendary San Fernando Valley recording studio, which closed down in 2011. Music for The Runaways movie was recorded there, and the studio scenes in the movie were filmed there.

Visit the official Sound City website HERE. Read Rolling Stone’s review of the film HERE.

1. Joan interview starting 2:57. Dave Grohl bought Sound City’s board when it closed, and Joan has recorded new material on it recently!

2. More cool Dave Grohl interviews – Joan’s not in this one, but you can see her shoulder in places (lol):

Joan Jett at the 2010 Long Island Music Hall of Fame Gala

Joan Jett was the first presenter at the 2010 Long Island Music Hall of Fame Gala on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. She inducted former WLIR program director Denis McNamara.

I can’t find any pics of Joan from the event (!!), but here’s a short video. See glimpses of Joan at 0:25 and 2:44:

Watch on youtube.

From :

The night kicked off with Joan Jett, who was the very first inductee into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006 inducting former WLIR program director Denis McNamara, “He is a man whose voice we all remember.”  McNamara changed the face of music when he changed the format of WLIR from classic rock to new wave in 1982.  Jett described, “Music in America would not be the same without Denis.  I am proud to call him my friend.”

From :

[F]ormer WLIR program director Denis McNamara, [was] inducted by Long Island Music Hall of Famer Joan Jett, who hailed him as a groundbreaker in radio. “It seems impossible to believe now, but it took a huge amount of courage for Denis to play my punk-rock, girl-led band’s songs, especially since the biggest bands for WLIR at the time were the Grateful Dead and the Doors,” she said. “But there was change in the air.”

East Northport’s McNamara recognized his part in building the area’s national reputation. “Because of what happened on the air at WLIR, especially in the ’80s, Long Island is seen as a gateway for new music and emerging artists,” he said. “That same compelling force now lives on in the scholarships of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.”

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame honors musicians and music professionals who are native to Long Island or have lived a significant part of their life there. Its first ceremony was held on October 15, 2006, and Joan Jett was its first inductee. 🙂

Cool trivia: Two of this year’s inductees, rock ‘n’ roll photographer Bob Gruen and Lou Reed, each have Joan Jett connections. Bob has taken some awesome pics of Joan over the years (see his work HERE and Google “Joan Jett Bob Gruen”), and The Runaways covered “Rock and Roll” by The Velvet Underground, written by the band’s lead singer, Lou Reed. (Can you spot any others?)
