Blackhearts to play Miami Make-a-Wish ball in Nov; new Joan Jett interview

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will perform about 6 songs at The Make-A-Wish Ball at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami, Florida on Nov. 5. Joan has been involved with Make-A-Wish for a long time. She spoke about it with The Miami Herald, and also talked about recording new music, The Blackhearts’ nomination to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and more. Here’s a snippet:

How did you get involved in Make-A-Wish Foundation?

I find it to be really moving; hopefully we can inspire some of the kids that are ill. We try to honor any requests that any child might have, whether it’s wanting to hang out backstage or seeing the show from a perspective they don’t usually get to. If I do anything to help, that’s humbling. It’s about giving back and making a connection. That’s what music is about for me.

Are you working on new music?

We’re writing an album now and planning to get into the studio around the holidays. I’m looking forward to starting a new year. For me, inspiration is always what I see in my life. Some of the songs deal with all the changes in social media and how tied into it people are. I think it can be used for good things, but I don’t use Twitter or Facebook to tell everyone what I’m doing. I don’t want to go into something I’m not able to wean myself away from. Television is bad enough.

How did it feel to get nominated into the R&R Hall of Fame?

I don’t really think about it. It’s a great nod in the industry and what you mean to music. If I get in, we’ll deal with that when it gets to that point.

European and Canadian Joan Jett tour dates added

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are opening for Green Day in Europe this summer. The European dates have led to two cancellations stateside:

1. June 4, 2010, at Portfest in Newport, Arkansas. The Blackhearts have been replaced with Blues Traveler.

2. June 11, 2010, at 4 Bears Casino in New Town, North Dakota. The Blackhearts have been replaced with John Kay & Steppenwolf, however, Cherie Currie will still be at that show if you want to attend. Read more HERE.

A date in Ottawa, Canada has been added on July 9. So far, only one Canadian date is being reported, but if they add others I’ll let you know!

Other additions to the dates:

1. The venue for the July 30 date in Robinsonville, Mississippi has been announced as the Horseshoe Tunica. The website is linked below.

2. The venue for the August 29 date in Atlanta, Georgia, has been announced as the Chastain Park Amphitheater. Billy Idol is also playing at this show, so it looks like The Blackhearts are opening for him on his tour, but I’m not 100% sure.
