A vintage 70’s paradise, The Rock-n-Roll Sports Classic has it ALL! Ed McMahon, Sandy Duncan, Kristy McNichol, PHYLLIS DILLER (portrait of a seasoned athlete…complete with long-filtered cigarette throughout) Michelle Phillips, Susan Anton and , wait for it… The DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS Why this hasn’t re-aired boggles my mind. Classic five-star cuisine at its finest.
Previous versions had only the Runaways portions complete with the remainder edited out. Although that’s the reason I’m interested in this to begin with, It just isn’t complete without the complete competition.
Unsurprisingly, the Runaways, half the ages of the rest of them for the most part, kick some major ass here.
The special was a musical version of the popular Battle of the Network Stars specials. Participants included The Jacksons (Michael swam in the relay race and ran the 60 yard dash), Tanya Tucker, Earth Wind & Fire, The Commodores, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Leif Garrett, Rod Stewart, Boston, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Kenny Loggins, Sha Na Na, Seals and Crofts, Anne Murray and others.
