Two Joan Jett-related items at SXSW this week

Jettheads, if you’re at SXSW this week, two items in particular will be of interest to you:

1. Joan Jett mural at 4th and Guadalupe

This incredibly HUGE and AWESOME mural from @obeygiant gives me chills. “Rock ‘n’ Roll saved my black heart and soul”–YEP, it did. I don’t think truer words have ever been painted on a wall.

2. The Punk Singer

Joan is one of the interviewees in this documentary about Kathleen Hanna by Sini Anderson.

From flavorwire.com (emphasis added by me):

Nailing the balance between history and personality is a tricky business for music documentaries, but Anderson gets it right. She tells Hanna’s story while situating it within the movement, telling the important stories (her connection to Kurt Cobain, the band’s “media blackout,” etc.), talking to the people you want to hear from (Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker, Jennifer Baumgardner, Girls to the Front author Sara Marcus).

Here’s the Kickstarter trailer — Joan speaks at 0:49:

The final screening was tonight, but I hope we can see it on Netflix or DVD soon!
